Our Mission
A few months ago I told my husband, "It's like there's all these different 'Emma's.' Emma the child of God, Emma the wife, Emma the mom... and Emma the woman. All the same 'Emma,' but not equally exercised. So much of me is given to being a wife and a mom-- I want to do something that allows me to have an outlet for the side of myself I knew so well before motherhood."
And thus, Honey Rock Candles was born!
My name is Emmaline Bohnstedt, and I'm so very glad you're here! I am a stay-at-home-mom to two beautiful boys, with a little girl coming in December. For many, many years I burned all different variety's and brands of candles in my home. However, after noticing
- soot buildup on my walls and windows
- increased sensitivity to the over-powering fragrance many candles emit (fragrance headaches, anyone?)
- awareness of the toxins and chemicals most commercial candles contain
- overall poor performance, ie short burn time, tunneling, flimsy wick...
I decided something needed to change-- because as much as I loved candles, I wasn't willing to put up with fragrance headaches, soot, and short candle-life-spans any longer. As I set out to make a safe, high-quality, and beautiful product, 3 distinct motivations were revealed... Honey Rock Candles' Mission--
A Passion for Shared Experiences
I have always been passionate about cooking, and I have always enjoyed burning candles. I truly enjoy every aspect of both activities-- the different aromas, the ambiance, the sound of a sizzling pan or sight of a gorgeous, gooey cinnamon roll that I toiled for hours making. Cooking and enjoying a candle (taste & smell) are deeply intertwined-- and while enjoying things is wonderful, I believe a new depth of fulfillment is reached when we realize exactly why we enjoy certain experiences.
Without the sensory experience of smell, the sensation of taste cannot be achieved. Have you ever wondered why your mouth begins to water when you simply smell your favorite food? Or why certain smells evoke different memories? Because, in a very real way, our senses of taste and smell shape the way we experience the world around us. Did you know that the sense of smell is the ONLY fully developed sense a baby has in the womb? Or that smell and emotion are stored as ONE memory!?
