Beeswax & More!

Q) Why are some candles labeled as ‘subtle fragrance’?

A) Did you know that there are MANY factors that contribute to a high-quality, long-lasting candle? When I began making candles, I was certainly shocked at the complexity! I initially began with Soy wax—I then experimented with Soy & Coconut waxes… when I finally began working with Beeswax & Coconut Oil I fell in LOVE!!  The short answer to the question is-- some candles have a more subtle fragrance due to beeswax' capacity to emit scent, and Honey Rock's commitment  to quality.  Our wax-to-fragrance ratio is thoughtfully proportioned to ensure quality and safety... read on for more information!!

There are benefits & drawbacks to each wax-- let's take a look!

Paraffin/ Paraffin Wax Blends

-- Widely used throughout the candle industry.  This is often an attractive wax for candles because it is cheap and offers a very intense scent throw... however the toxins released from phthalate-infused fragrance oils and paraffin wax often cause headaches.

-- When paraffin burns it releases toxins to be inhaled or absorbed through the skin, releases copious amounts of soot, and burns very quickly resulting in a short-candle-life

--Paraffin is derived from petroleum which is a non-renewable resource, thus making it unsustainable.  In addition, paraffin releases endocrine disrupting toxins into the air which contribute to both long & short-term health complications.

Takeaway-- these candles often smell amazing, but are detrimental to your health & the environment

Soy Wax

-- Soy wax is biodegradable, renewable, sustainable, and easy to clean up with soap and water!

-- Releases minimal soot and toxins when burned (so long as the candle is pure Soy & not a Soy/ Paraffin blend).  Many companies claim to produce 'environmentally friendly/ sustainable candles' using a 'Soy Wax Blend'.  Read the label carefully, because this 'Blend' most often refers to Soy & Paraffin

-- Offers a strong scent throw, meaning it has the ability to emit a strong fragrance when burned

-- Offers a longer burn-time than some other waxes

Beeswax

-- Beeswax is a sustainable, renewable resource that actually PURIFIES the air by producing negative ions when burned

-- Offers arguably the best burn-time of any candle wax

-- Release perhaps the least soot of any candle wax

-- Has a lovely, natural & sweet honey aroma

-- Though Beeswax certainly holds fragrance, it does not have as strong a fragrance throw as other waxes.  Some people view this as a benefit, others as a drawback-- it really depends on what you want out of your candles.

All this to say...

Are you still with me!?  Candles labeled as 'subtle fragrance' smell beautiful and delicate-- albeit a bit subtle.  The scent is still apparent, but it won't be obtrusive or give you a headache anytime soon!  In fact-- at Honey Rock Candles-- none of our products will give you those dreaded fragrance headaches, because

-- Honey Rock uses only the highest quality phthalate-FREE fragrance oils

-- Each candle is made with 100% PURE, triple-filtered, USA Beeswax *sourced from a small apiary in farm country* & PURE ORGANIC Coconut Oil

-- Our 'wax-to-fragrance' ratio is thoughtfully proportioned to ensure

1) a premium burn-time of 35-40+ hours

2) a lovely aroma that is both present and lovely, yet unobtrusive

3) and a clean burn EVERY TIME

*I personally love burning 'subtle fragrance' candles when I am cooking, or having dinner with the family!  I find the aroma delicate and lovely without mingling too much with the other luscious fragrances dancing in the air.  Who doesn't love the warmth and ambiance of a candle over dinner!?*
